The Cape Henry Lighthouse gives you a picturesque background for your next social media-worthy shot and has a rich history of over a century of active use. It has also made history as the first federally funded project, signed and approved personally by Alexander Hamilton and George Washington. The lighthouse is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Be sure to save this attraction for a cooler summer day though, as the inside of the lighthouse can get quite hot. When this happens, you will still be able to tour the grounds. However, you may not be allowed in the upper level for your own personal health and safety.
Tour through history at the Military Aviation Museum
If you’re looking for a spot to stop that’s out of the ordinary, you can take a trip back through time at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. Housing hundreds of historic avionics and planes, it has the largest collection of WWI & WWII-era planes in the world. The Military Aviation Museum also offers summer camp options, perfect for those with children in younger age groups.
Hike and lounge at False Cape State Park
If you’re up for a walk, take a visit to False Cape State Park. This is one of the last untouched areas of beach along the dazzling Atlantic coastline, offering you the perfect exclusive beach experience in Virginia Beach. You can enjoy the sun, surf, kayaking, and more. You can also enjoy the variety of accessible hiking trails as you explore this small, exclusive stretch of the Atlantic coast. Ever wanted to camp on the beach? You can at False Cape! The park’s website does recommend that you read through recommendations for the best experience, but overnight passes are available to visitors who want to camp under the stars in the warmer summer months.
