“If we all just did a little, we could do so much good.” Amy Hart, Executive Director and one of the founding members of PMI Cares had this to say. She’s right. When we all contribute something, we can make a difference and that’s why PMI Cares was created. There’s no ulterior motive. This foundation promotes PMI business owners to be leaders and thriving humanitarians who give back to their own communities and markets.
What is PMI Cares?
PMI Cares knows that there are so many areas of need from homelessness to other large social problems. However, they don’t push one agenda. Instead, they assist franchisees in identifying and then contributing to the social needs of their choice in their communities and markets. PMI Cares encourages PMI franchises to get involved right where they are, to find non-profit organizations (NPOs) that are currently helping and serving in their local communities, then find a way to assist by making a donation and/or putting together a fundraising event.
The PMI Cares Match Program
A very cool initiative under PMI Cares is the PMI Cares Match Program. This allows franchisees to apply for a match. If the project is approved, PMI Cares will supply that franchisee with the monetary match to their donation. Hart says, “When they get involved, we get involved with them.” She encourages people to not just wait for the match though but to start giving back to the community right now. She says that it’s about businesses being “outwardly focused.” She also says businesses that have this focus tend to thrive. She mentions two franchisees that are on the PMI Cares Board: Shannon Cornell and Jim Murphy. She says their businesses are service oriented and are thriving.
PMI Cares Mission, Vision, and Values
PMI Cares mission is to assist in identifying the social needs within the PMI Franchisee communities, to assist monetarily with the PMI Cares program, and in establishing partnerships with their local nonprofits, local government leaders, and legislatures in co-serving their communities. The vision and objective are to work with the PMI Franchisees in their communities to come up with fundraising opportunities, ideas, and projects to sustain, educate, and empower the vulnerable ‘at risk’ groups of their choice until they are self-sufficient and or change is sustainable. It’s the PMI Care foundation’s belief and part of the overall values that sustainable change is built through leadership and education. While Property Management Inc. is already in the business of creating and supporting property management industry leaders, it is PMI Cares initiative to build opportunities for PMI Franchisees to serve and lead in their own communities. Hart mentions that it’s about making “sustainable change for good” in all communities that PMI franchises are found. This isn’t run by corporate but is a privately funded initiative. This is about “PMI franchises getting connected with local communities.” They want to help franchisees make a positive impact.
A PMI Cares Service Project Example
The PMI Cares initiative is already making a difference. They were recently involved in raising money for the family hardship fund for Phoenix Children’s Hospital. They were able to raise $7,000 for the fund in just two hours. This is just an example of what PMI franchisees and PMI Cares can do together.
Who to Reach Out to for More Information and Service Project Ideas
PMI Cares does not shout any particular initiative. However, they will help PMI franchises come up with ideas for service projects if franchisees want assistance brainstorming. Hart says they could talk to Shannon Cornell, Jim Murphy, or her regarding ideas. She suggests that any franchisees wanting to learn more about this initiative or brainstorm ideas reach out to her at amy@pmicares.org. She’s happy to talk more about this and work with franchisees as they look for ways to give back to their communities.
How to Donate to the PMI Cares Match Program
As previously mentioned, PMI Cares is privately funded. People are encouraged to get involved in making a difference by donating to the match program. Partnering or contributing to PMI Cares is a sure way to know that your donations are making the most impact. These donations help to serve various causes and the many communities where PMI franchises are located. If you’re ready to make a positive impact, you can donate here.
We’re excited about the PMI Cares initiative and all the good that will be done through it. The launch has been received wonderfully and it’s off to a great start. We know that PMI Franchisees can make a difference in these communities. When businesses have a service-oriented or “outwardly focus” they really can grow and thrive.
Please reach out to Amy if you want to get started on brainstorming service project ideas. You can also visit PMI Cares website to learn more about the initiative. We’re so excited to see all the good that will be accomplished.
